Comparing Branding of Meat and Plant Based Foods.

The main differences between the two:

The main difference between the branding of the meat and the plant based products is that the meat is mostly vaccum packed labelled with either what it is or charcteristcs of it that makes it superior to other products, whereas the plant placed have a lot more behind them they are a lot more considered to what the product is and selling. Also a lot more informative of whats int he product and where it came from.

This is some examples I found of branded meat:

When looking for branding of meat products as research I came to realise that there isnt many prevelant major meat brands and if there is one the branding is really bad and dated like Bernard Matthews or Walls. Most meat is sold without much packaging. Why is this because there isn't much good associations that you could possibly put on the packaging. Whereas all the vegan and veggie products mostly have very good branding and our packaged well. If the meat is branded it usually has a cow or a pig on it which is absurd.

Plant Based Examples:

The branding and packaging for veggie and vegan products is a lot more contemporary, using clean photography large clear type and mostly wholesome colours. one the things I noticed is that they very rarely show the product through the packaging, this especially reigns true in terms of Quorns products. It can be taken in two ways in my opinion that the actual aesthetic of the product is not that good or its trying to differentiate its self form the meat products because most meat products have a small label and just show the meat with very little branding.

unbranded meat:

Here are some examples of meat that is limitedly branded with just small labels and then showing the product through a transparent film. I believe this is because they don't have enough good associations linked to the product, and they let the product do the talking. It is all very minimal and basic with pretty much just where its form and what it is on the label little colour and enticement.

Linda McCartney Foods

Linda McCartney produces a variety of products that are made without animal suffering, most of them also come in 100 per cent recyclable packaging containing no plastic.

Iceland

Iceland’s No Bull Burger was the first 'meat-replicating vegan burger' in supermarkets in the UK. It has a soya base to produce the right taste and texture as well as beetroot powder for colour.
